Masamune was summoned from the Sengoku Era to the Touken Ranbu world because the organization thought he'd be useful to help fighting the revisionists, as a historical figure famous for his success in battles.
He was given some saniwa traning, but he prefers to join his squads at the front lines and actually fight the monsters with them. The way he treats his swords is no different from how he used to treat his army back in Oshu. They are his family and no one gets left behind. He actually often helps out at other chores too, since caring for horses, gardening and sparring were common in Oshu. And often joins Team Mom to make food to the rest.
